Student #1:My PICOT question will be: Does patients in need of Physical and Occupational Therapy will recover faster if the go to an inpatient rehabilitation center or go home with home health care after a knee or hip replacement? To do the research I will use Qualitative and Quantitative methods and, I will implement my research process . The steps in the research process include: Identification of researchable problem, review of literature, formulation of the research question or hypothesis, design of the study, implementation of the study, drawing conclusions based on findings, discussion and clinical implications, and dissemination of findings. (Black, 2014, p.228-229).

I found one article regarding the Effect of Inpatient Rehabilitation vs a Monitored Home-Based Program on Mobility in Patients with Total Knee Arthroplasty and the results were that among adults undergoing uncomplicated total knee arthroplasty, the use of inpatient rehabilitation compared with a monitored home-based program did not improve mobility at 26 weeks (about 6 months) after surgery. (Harris IA, et al.,2017)

I believed that the nursing theory that will correlate with this will be the Florence Nightingale which defined nursing in her “Environmental Theory” as “the act of utilizing the environment of the patient to assist him in his recovery.”

Student 2:I would propose Dorothea Orem as my nursing theorist. Orem’s theory was based on self-care and self-efficacy. She thought that if you were more self-sufficient and more knowledgeable about your health, you could better care for yourself (Petiprin, A., 2020). Since I spoke about being more knowledgeable and educated regarding your health, Orem’s theory fits perfectly. I refer back to wound care and dressing changes. If you are more informed and knowledgeable, you can decrease your chances of infection.

Student #1:The 1951 Refugee Convention is a key legal document and defines a refugee as: “someone who is unable or unwilling to return to their country of origin owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion (What is a refugee?, 2021).” While researching refugee groups I came across Afghanistan on the top five refugee (The world’s 5 biggest refugee crises, 2020). Afghanistan has 2.7 million refugees, they began arriving in 1979, in the months leading up to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and became the one of the top five largest refugees’ crisis (Afghanistan’s refugees: forty years of dispossession, 2019). Most Afghanis who seek health care at American or Coalition hospitals in Afghanistan are extremely sick, severely injured, or near death (Yourk, 2008). Afghanistan’s culture is deeply rooted in Islam. Even in times of sickness, prayer is an extremely important part of daily life. Inability to pray can cause much anxiety and stress (Yourk, 2008). Ramadan is the most significant time of year for those of the Islamic (Muslim) faith. Lasting 1 month, Ramadan starts on the first new moon of autumn. It’s a time for inner reflection, devotion to God, and self-control. During Ramadan, Muslims fast and avoid med­ications and sexual activity from sunrise to sunset. When an Afghani patient seeks health care, the father, the eldest son, or an elderly uncle serves as family spokesperson (Yourk, 2008). Afghani patients of either sex, keep their bodies cov­ered as much as possible. Certain Some health problems they may have are: Afghani cultural beliefs may inhibit self-care and healing, for example, some patients may not want to ambulate, believing they need to preserve their energy for healing. Relatively uneducated and may get confused when physicians and nurses explain medical information or treatment options. Many would rather defer medical decisions to the physician. This may impact health delivery system because there patient don’t have the knowledge to understand their care so they are not able participate in decision-making of their care. Also their health problems may go uncontrolled which causes more issues and illnesses.

Student #2:A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war, or increased violence in the country and not able to go back to live in their own country (Who is a refugee? 2021). Afghan refugee population who left their own country Afghanistan and moved to neighboring countries such as Pakistan and Iran is one the largest refugee population. “More than 400,000 people fled the violence of the Communist-led Taraki and Amin government, crossing over into Pakistan and the numbers progressively swelled after the Soviet invasion on Christmas Eve in 1979, by the end of 1980, there were more than four million Afghan refugees in Pakistan” (Afghanistan’s refugees, 2019, para. 1).

The majority of Afghan people belong to the Muslim religion. The male person is represented as the head of the family who takes all decisions for the rest of the family members. They believe to not talk about sex-related topics in the public especially with opposite-sex people. Lack of education about sexually transmitted disease increase the risk of HIV and aids among Afgan people. They avoid discussing it with the doctor because of their cultural beliefs, especially with opposite sex doctor or nurse. Afghan people also believe that illness, pain, and suffering occur as a test from God because of that they often delay seeking treatment which can increase more complications such as failure of the organs.

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.

Initial responses to the DQ should address all components of the questions asked, include a minimum of one scholarly source, and be at least 250 words.
Successful responses are substantive (i.e., add something new to the discussion, engage others in the discussion, well-developed idea) and include at least one scholarly source.
One or two sentence responses, simple statements of agreement or “good post,” and responses that are off-topic will not count as substantive. Substantive responses should be at least 150 words.
I encourage you to incorporate the readings from the week (as applicable) into your responses.
Weekly Participation

Your initial responses to the mandatory DQ do not count toward participation and are graded separately.
In addition to the DQ responses, you must post at least one reply to peers (or me) on three separate days, for a total of three replies.
Participation posts do not require a scholarly source/citation (unless you cite someone else’s work).
Part of your weekly participation includes viewing the weekly announcement and attesting to watching it in the comments. These announcements are made to ensure you understand everything that is due during the week.
APA Format and Writing Quality

Familiarize yourself with APA format and practice using it correctly. It is used for most writing assignments for your degree. Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in LoudCloud for APA paper templates, citation examples, tips, etc. Points will be deducted for poor use of APA format or absence of APA format (if required).
Cite all sources of information! When in doubt, cite the source. Paraphrasing also requires a citation.
I highly recommend using the APA Publication Manual, 6th edition.
Use of Direct Quotes

I discourage overutilization of direct quotes in DQs and assignments at the Masters’ level and deduct points accordingly.
As Masters’ level students, it is important that you be able to critically analyze and interpret information from journal articles and other resources. Simply restating someone else’s words does not demonstrate an understanding of the content or critical analysis of the content.
It is best to paraphrase content and cite your source.
